Frequently Asked Questions about SSNT Vessel Operations TTNVQ Programme

Is the TTNVQ recognized by the Maritime Authority in Trinidad and Tobago?

We don’t know. Please contact the Maritime Authority to find out (and tell us). The vessel operations vocational qualification level 2 (for BM3 we think) was approved by the National Training Agency (NTATT) on 17/10/2022. NTATT is still developing the higher levels.

What gross tonnage vessels can I work on with the TTNVQ?

The Maritime Authority in your country decides what tonnage vessels you can work on with what level of NVQ. Under STCW, you still will need a licence (certificate of competency) from the Maritime Authority of the country where your ship is registered. The NVQ, in other countries, covers the studies and the Maritime Authority administers an oral exam before the licence is issued. .

How can a seafarer start the SSNT TTNVQ programme?

The SSNT VO TTNVQ programme is very accessible for working seafarers at all levels. Working seafarers have the option to jump in and do the Core Vessel Operations assessments and if they are successful, they can progress to the Advanced Vessel Operation units.
