Outboard Motor Maintenance training - Learn how to service your own engine

Eligibility - Who can do this course

If you’re mechanically inclined or passionate about boating, you may wish to consider outboard motor

maintenance training and certification. Certified outboard mechanics install equipment on boats,

troubleshoot misfiring engines and make repairs on all types of watercraft. Outboard motor mechanics

must be certified to work on engines and parts covered under manufacturers' warranties.

No academic qualifications are needed for admission to outboard motor maintenance training programs.

  • All SSNT courses are NTA approved

  • We offer discounts and flexible payment plans

Programme Objectives

This five day program will provide the fundamentals of outboard motor maintenance. It aims to give participants

operational knowledge of outboard motor systems, and how to safely use hand tools to

perform planned maintenance and repairs. Overall, we hope to keep more fishermen at sea with reliable engines,

catching bigger catches and feeding the nation.

Learning Outcomes

Successful candidates will be able to download a service manual for an engine, analyse performance of an outboard

motor, perform routine maintenance of outboard engines, disassemble them, inspect

and analyse the condition of components, replace where required and reassemble outboard engines, and record

workshop logs.

Resources needed for the programme

Students need their brain, their attention span and a device to access the LMS (and to record) and pen and paper.
